Great book for Architecture Students. Go VT

Purchased for an architectural history class in college, while I didn't need ti much for the class, the book is really easy to use (just like any other dictionary) and very explanatory in its definitions.

Just as expected. Great condition. Perfect for architecture school.

Because You’ll Never Meet Me by Leah Thomas is a young adult contemporary novel and tells of the pen friendship between two isolated young men, Moritz from Germany and Ollie who lives in the US. Each of the two young men has a physical ailment which limits their interaction with mainstream society. These same limitations – for Ollie an severe reaction to electricity and for Moritz a heart defect requiring an electronic pacemaker – precludes their ever meeting face to face. Their friendship develops through the letters they write to each other. The novel is written in the style of letters exchanged between the two.I loved this book, which I listened to in audiobook format.What I likedThe characters. I adored both Ollie and Moritz and was emotionally invested in their journeys. I was really rooting for them both. Their two differing points of view are beautifully brought out through the letters they write to each other. Each has a unique writing style which gave a wonderful insight into their characters. It is a mark of how invested I was in the two that when Moritz finally comes back into contact after an absence of several letters, I had a big smile on my face.The friendship. The relationship between the two is wonderfully developed, starting from an initial slow building of trust to the deep bond they share. It’s clear that both of them are stronger people in the end for the friendship, which encourages them to push beyond their comfort zones.The audio narration. Because You’ll Never Meet Me is a perfect book for the audio format given that it is written in letter format. You are hearing the characters’ words directly. There were two narrators, one for Moritz (with a gorgeous, slight German accent) and one for Ollie. Both narrators were brilliantly able to reflect their characters’ personal growth through their performances.What I didn’t likeIn all honesty, there was very little I didn’t like about Because You’ll Never Meet Me. At one point I did have concerns that Thomas was going to go for the real cliché in the connection between the boys, but she avoided that.I gave Because You’ll Never Meet Me a well deserved four and a half stars out of five.

I have never written a review despite all the books I have collected over the years. I don't know why I feel inclined to write a review for this particular book. Maybe because it has so few reviews and yet it is such an amazing story. I love this book but as of right now I doubt that I will ever read it again.. which is a very good thing I assure you. Books that do that to me mean that I will be thinking about it until I forget to remember it. It means that it has settled in my heart and will restrict my breathing and stutter my heart at weak moments when I allow myself to haphazardly remember a line of dialogue or a situation of sadness that I felt mirror something tragic in real life...in my own life. I won't say I've experienced anything close to what these characters have gone through but eh, parallels can be found in the oddest of places.Oliver and Moritz. This is the second story I have read in as many weeks with a main character named Oliver and it has made one thing very clear to me; if I ever have a son I will NEVER name him Oliver. But this is off topic.Oliver and Moritz. Oliver is an American 14 year old with a weird affliction that has him landlocked in the woods of Michigan, yearning to be apart of a world that will destroy him. Moritz is a German 16 year old with an affliction that makes him alone in a very crowded world. In the beginning of the story, it seems as though they would be happy to switch places but of course this is not possible. They can't even meet one another. So instead they write letters explaining their situation to one another, both trying desperately to hold on to perceptions of who they think they should be. Both of them failing miserably to keep in place their facades.This story is definitely different. If I had to categorize it I honestly wouldn't know where to put it. I like that I see so many references to things in life that I enjoy. I like that the author put in Jane Eyre alongside Full Metal Alchemist. I like that I see a surrogate father to two country crossing hunters in the uncle who owns a junk yard. I like that I felt completely at home in my geeky-ness reading this. I liked that I liked this book enough to read it through the night and then write this sleep deprived review at 5:30 in the morning.I really don't want to give anything away in this story because I feel that reading it and letting it unfold is so much better than anything I could say. I don't want to say which characters I liked most and which ones I wanted to hit in the face with a cell phone. Or rehash my favorite dialogue. I liked this book simple because I liked it and I think its worth a read.

I haven't read a book composed in letters I've liked since Dracula, so that's saying a lot. I really adore this book. Ollie is such a fun character to get inside the mind of, and though at first Mortiz seems unlikeable, you end up really caring about him too. Also, on top of the characters being so perfect, the language in the book is wonderfully written. Minimal dialogue tags, fantastic detail (especially considering one of the characters is blind), and a compelling story. Fantastic!

This is a fantastic piece of work by Jancis and her team, long awaited by me here in Hong Kong. I went for buying through the US amazon website. Here is the big BUT. Terrible printing and publishing. For a book of this price USD 120 by the time it got to me, the quality of the production of the book leaves a lot to be desired. Print is difficult to read due to poor black and white contrast. For anybody with eyesight issues I strongly advise you do not buy it. Many org charts (now available to download in Purple Pages website - thank you Jancis) are hidden the the spine of the book and hence not legible. What a shame. Hopefully the UK published version is better. As a book of reference I think it will go down in history as definitive but I would wait in the hope the publishers get their act together for future print runs. I would have given this 5 stars but ......

I don't work in the wine industry but my daughter does and I purchased this book as a gift for her. It's a standard text and it seems quite comprehensive. Why the bad rating? It is very poorly designed and produced. The book includes fold outs with part of their graphics bound deep into the gutter of the book making them unreadable. No excuse for this since there is at least 1" of unprinted area along the left margin of the foldout. A better book designer should have picked this flaw up and avoided it. It should have been a two volume publication. That would have eliminated so much of the graphics and text readability problems. Yes, two volumes would cost more than one; but this is a reference text that one keeps and the additional expense would be well worth it.We're going to try writing to the publisher to see if we can get separate sheets of the full fold outs. After all, I paid for them.This seems to be a very good reference that one would keep throughout a career in wine. No point in cheaping out on the book design and publication.

For years I've loved Jancis Robinson's pocket-sized Guide to Wine Grapes, turning to it whenever I encounter a new wine grape. Alas, it is long out of print, and a bit dated in terms of the relationships between grapes.Now comes this new volume, which is anything but pocket-sized. Massive and slip-cased, it has the gravitas of an aged Premier Cru. For each of nearly 1400 varieties there is an entry that gives you its color (from among five choices), common synonyms (for some widely grown grapes there are many), other varieties it is often mistaken for, and what is known of its origins and heritage (relying on recent, extensive, DNA testing of wine grapes). Then there is a brief summary of how it grows (vigor, resistance, when it ripens, and the like) and where it grows. As warranted, there is a discussion of what it tastes like and the quality of the wine it produces. Many of these grapes are actually very marginal from a wine making viewpoint, and are of interest for historical or relationship reasons. (I do miss the little sliding bar from the earlier book that suggested at a glance the likelihood of the grape producing a decent wine.)The relationship information is fascinating. Selected grapes have a family tree associated with their entry. Looking at Cabernet Sauvignon we learn that Chenin Blanc is a sister of Sauvignon Blanc and, hence, an aunt of Cabernet Sauvignon. Freisa turns out to be a cross of Nebbiolo with an unknown grape. The foldout genealogy of Pinot Noir is remarkable. Who would have guessed that Lagrein is a granddaughter of Pinot, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are both great granddaughters? On a down side, the figure is sewn so deeply into the binding that part of the tree can't be read.I decided to check on a grape of local (but not wine drinking!) interest. In the earlier book there is an entry for the Mission grape, the first wine grape brought to California; there is was associated with the Monica grape. The current volume doesn't have an entry for Mission (it has entries pointing you to a main entry for some synonyms, but not for others). Checking the index it turns out that Mission is actually Listan Prieto. (Which I'd certainly never heard of before.)There are also beautiful color plates, originally published in France over a century ago, of selected grapes. (Interestingly, one is labeled "Mission"!)But there are, alas, some imperfections. I've mentioned how the Pinot family tree is bound so that it is not all readable. While the paper in a volume this size is necessarily thin, the see-through on some pages is annoying; more opaque paper would have been nice. The label on the front of the slip case is somewhat crooked, and the one on the edge quite so. Production quality could have been better.Had this been a standard book at half or even two-thirds the price it would have been an easy five stars. But in a slip-cased book at this list price you expect a little better attention to detail than this book manages. So I reluctantly drop my rating to four stars. Still an excellent investment for or gift to a devoted oenophile, it is not quite the value it could have been with a little better physical execution.

This book is amazing. It has become my go to for talking points about obscure grapes in my role as a sommelier. Some people have complained about the quality of the binding but I have seen none of that. Maybe it was a problem with an earlier edition that has been corrected. Illustrations are beautiful and there is a f@&$-ton of information here. Best book I've bought this year.

I love the characters in this book, especially the "rough around the edges", Kirsten. The story has some of everything - murder, deceit, good & evil, love, kids, a dog - and even a little religion - all combined into an action-packed story. It helps with character identification if you've read the first two books, but the author does a good job of introducing everyone and giving background if you haven't read them.

This is a good read, the people who are portrayed in this story are a sample of what to expect in any society. The author put them out west and at the right time which made the story more interesting

Schwab is a consistent performer, always good. Surprising, imaginative stories. Always fun to read, keep you reading, anxious to see what's next.

I just reread Medicine Wheel. In Med wheel Cam is married to Pilar with 3children. This book they have one child Wrangler. And of course NEVER married. And a minor detail to some, but still wrong! I did not look for other obvious mistakes. Schwab books are well edited. But his glaring mistake was not.I have read all Of Rom Schwab western novels. So I picked up this error from the previous book in 2016.

This is a quick read story. Great characters, familiar to some who have read earlier Locke family stories, but a stand alone story.It’s important for those who read this to understand that while the characters are familiar, it doesn’t necessarily mesh to the timelines found in the earlier books.A nice “escape read” for 4 or 5 hours into the Flint Hills if Kansas! Veterinarian Thad Locke, his family of “Law Wranglers” and assorted others make for a fast paced story that involves, murder-mystery, communes, small business and volunteer firefighters—and they’re all weaves together naturally!

Oh, this Mr. Schwab can write a story that will capture your interest and keep it there until the very last page! This series of the Locke’s have been so wonderful. I have tried to follow them faithfully. Keep writing!

What an exciting book this was. Great characters and lots of action surrounding the small town. Would highly recommend this book and all others written by this author to everyone that enjoys a great story.

Quite different from your usual fare. A commune with the despot leader. A family we know who always work for good, with some new characters thrown for good measure.

This book just entered the public domain here in the United States and I heard good things about it so I thought I order a copy to celebrate Public Domain Day and introduce myself to this classic work of literature. This is a nice, sturdy hardcover edition from Penguin Classics with blue gilding on the pages and a sweet forward by Rupi Kaur who herself was inspired by the book growing up.With the first page, I was hooked and read the whole way through. The language is so elegant and rhythmic, and the lessons being taught are quite profound, for example the section on "Crime and Punishment" and how it speaks about citizens viewing criminals as "strangers" when they themselves have the same propensity to committing similar acts really stood out to me upon my first reading.Even though it's a very short book (about 100 pages long), it is so dense with imagery that it could take multiple re-readings in order to grasp every detail and inner truth being written. I plan to revisit this book every now and again in order to do so and it would serve as a nice companion for my life's journey. I highly recommend this to everyone.
