In my photo, next to it is His Girl and monkey king. The ten year book is printed way too small. To truly appreciate his amazing artistic abilities, it would be better if they printed it as large as the "Monkey King book". Also, the paper quality is pretty bad. It feels cheap and images are dark.They should have used copper plate paper... like in the other book.... basically.... just come on... the conttent is amazing, but it's so poorly printed.. I don't recommend you getting it.

katsuya Terada is an amazing artist. Not only for his great skills, but also for his sense of design and creativity. You will be amazed by the huge amount of drawings in this book. I am an artist myself and I can not understand how he is able to draw so much, so well!!! The only drawback on this book is the size of it, and the size of some drawings. With a rich and detailed artist like him, you want to see the piece as big as possible. Regardless, its not a reason do give less than 5 stars. The artist deserved it. Even if it was a very little book, still I would have bought it. But on the next one, I strongly recommend to make it bigger. Also, even if I always want to see as many drawings from Mr. Terada as possible, to put less pieces, in order to give more room to the choosen ones.Easy 5 star. Strongly recommended.

It is all in japanese, but truthfully, you should buy this book to look at the collection of incredible illustrations, and not for reading. This is a great book for inspiration.

this book is fantastic. if there was one thing i didn't like is that i find it a bit small compared to most of the art books I have. many of the illustrations would be more exciting if the format of the book was simply bigger. Other than that i am thrilled to add it to my collection of artist books.

For $33, this art book is an utter steal. The description does it no justice as it's PACKED with sketches, paintings and some of the most intricate, gorgeous line art drawings ever (the best part). I'll be buying more books of Mr. Terada's work. Can't get enough!

Bigger!! I know, it's an American thing. This is a gorgeous book. Even my strict Catholic mother scanned it and remarked on it's incredible artworks. This is worth every dime, and that is a rare feat. Now, if only we could get more of his work translated into English.What makes his work stand out is the way he uses charged violence and eroticism without denigrating their power. His designs perfectly meld the mechanical and the organic into a fantastic functionality that would make H.R. Giger proud. Even as he does this it is not cold and alien but human, lively, exotic and often very down to earth.This is an exceptional collection and I can't recommend it highly enough. Just don't get worked up over the small format and small images. That's just the price of a book chock full of creative magic.

Really enjoyed this one, but I am rating it a four because I didn't think Cleo should've ended up living the same life as her mother, though the author did say she paid her own way. Yet, I was disappointed in the turn of events for her and for Josephine, and I had hoped they wouldn't allow Cleo to be bleed when she had Yellow Jack. Otherwise, the novel is a good read and some may not be bothered by those events and feel they just make the story. It is a worthy story to read set during antebellum days in New Orleans. I love books set during that time period, which is why I chose to read it. I thought the author did a very good job with characterization and description since I was able to visualize the characters and felt like I came to know them. The author also did a great job of illustrating character change in Josie from the time she was a young girl to the time she became a woman. The best part of the book to me was the great job the author did with the flood experience. I am from Louisiana and endured a flood in 83 and one in 93 when the Mississippi River flooded its banks and entered my home both times, so I could really envision the flood and felt she did a wonderful job with description. I think that was my favorite part of the book though it was sad, probably because I could identify with the flood situation. This is the first novel I have read by this author, but I've bought the other two books in this series and look forward to reading them as well, even though reviewers say this one is the best of the three. It would be hard to top this one. I tend to choose my own books and make up my own mind rather than listen to reviews. If you like books set in this time period, you should enjoy this one. I did. The author also does a great job handling the relationship between the siblings, and that was another favorite part of the book for me

They loved each other like the sisters they were. This is their story. How after a terrible flood, the plantation was in ruins and with terrible debts. The father who loved them both was drowned in the flood. The white daughter managed though terrible times to keep The plantation in her family. The black daughter got false papers and ran away with help and went to New Orleans. The story goes on to tell of their meeting again, ending their differences and how through hard work, they survived

Always and Forever is a beautifully captivating read, emersing the reader into the heart of the Creole culture during thee Antebellum age. The book amazingly carries a whimsical overture despite the malice nature of its back drop and even so, this tale of two sisters, one the illegitimate child of a man of society and his slave mistress and the other the rightful heir; exudes two beautifully strong women living during a time of great uncertainty and prejudices, both against race and sex. What was unfortunate and prevented me 5 stars was that towards the last quarter if the book, the story of these two beautifully structured characters became muffled. The author seems to have carelessly breezes through the last quarter of the book robbing the reader of being able to see and enjoy the sweet build up of the various character relationships. I was greatly disappointed by the cliched turn if events for Cleo. For Cleo to be established early on in the text as a strong, wise woman of color to end up living the same life as her mother had is disheartening and seems a bit careless on the author's end. Nevertheless, no matter the direction these characters turned, there needed to been given greater care to the relationship development between the characters.

This is an excellent book that tells it like it was as far as relationships on plantations, and how those relationships touched the lives of all involved, white and black. The story line is believable and could easily taken place over and over again throughout the South prior to the Civil War. The characters are well defined and show great development. Their actions and reactions held true to the time period and also to human nature. The story is beautifully written and edited. This storyline reminds me of the Falconhurst Series which I read almost 40 years ago. Those wonderful books have stayed with me all these years, just as I'm sure this story, and others by this author also will.

There were times I couldn't put the book down but other times when I felt the book was dragging on and on. It seemed like some of the story lines that I thought were pretty significant were over in a few sentences, yet some of the details regarding setting, time, place, etc would go on for paragraphs and/or pages.

I found this book to be very interesting. It held my attention. I found myself involved with the characters who became real to me. Their era and struggle to survive. Their circumstances and pains. How hard the living really was. How hard one had to work. The confusion of slavery. The love and double sided relationships. All was touching and captivating. I look forward to reading her next book.

I hated for this book to end. I didn't want to let go of the characters. easy reading, no jumping around in time, characters you love and know in depth and a great story plot. what else do you need? I was really glad it was a long book.

There is not much that I would change if I had written this myself. Sometimes, we don't share everything about our feelings with those closest to us, so I can see how Cleo unknowingly betrayed Josephine. Josephine never shared her feelings for Bertrand with Cleo. Bertrand made the first move towards their relationship, but loneliness catapulted Cleo into his arms.

As with most art books, this book starts with an explanation of materials and color theory. A unique feature was the chart on techniques for oil, acrylic, pastels, and watercolor. It is a great reference for future projects such as landscape and still life, the chart is not just helpful for portraits.I have read a lot of portrait books that show how the typical facial proportions are plotted out. This book as unique with using skulls to demonstrate the features you need to be sure to get accurately. One tip on drawing hair was to think of it as a helmet as opposed to individual strands or a mass with texture. The author's suggestion made me much more successful in painting hair, which was something I had struggled with in the past.Because the finished drawings are so advanced I think this book would be beneficial to an advanced artist as well as a beginner. My drawings did not turn out nearly as good as the finished portraits in the book but I did learn a lot through the process and saw progress in my work.I highly recommend this book to a beginning or advanced artist.I received this galley from NetGalley.

It has some basic instructions about how to draw faces, color theory and explanations about tools & materials, but what makes this book special is that it explains how to approach portrait painting using watercolors, pencils, acrylics, oils and pastels.Each medium has it's own techniques and ways to achieve certain effect, so even if you know how to draw a portrait, lets say, using colored pencils, these tutorials can help you transition to a different medium like for example, watercolors, which will behave very differently to your well-known pencils. It can also help if you want to try different options before settling for an specific medium. It has nice and simple explanations and tips, which are usually given through step-by step projects. It includes different faces: baby, kid, teen, adult and elderly, different skin tones and hair types (distributed across the different mediums, not all varieties are shown for each medium). I would recommend it to the adventurous artist who wants to explore different mediums and needs a reference guide to start the journey . *I read this book as an eARC

This book explorers drawing human faces in graphite pencil, oil and acrylic, watercolor, and pastel. They started by talking about the tools, materials, and techniques used in different mediums (though this is more a definition of terms than teaching a beginner how to use the medium). Since so many mediums are covered, none are talked about in depth. They then talked about facial anatomy, proportions, and how to draw the various features on the face. There were many tips about common errors that would be useful for anyone having trouble making realistic faces.They then gave step-by-step demonstrations of drawing several portraits in each medium (graphite, oil and acrylic, watercolor, and pastel) and included many different types of faces (baby, child, adult, old, male, female, plus different skin tones and hair types). The instructions were basically what colors the artist used and what order they did the features. The graphite pencil section was the most useful, in my opinion. They did provide some tips specific to drawing portraits in each medium. This book would probably be most useful to an artist who is interested in drawing portraits but who has not yet settled on a medium that they prefer.I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

This is a great book for any aspiring artist. For someone working to become a better artist you will find that faces and features tend to be things that take time and practice. The book walks you through activities that will help you to create faces that will get better and better the more that you practice, or at least it helped me. The book looks at so many aspects to faces and features that I know that I did not consider when I first started reading this. I learned a ton and I know that you will too!

This book gets you started on testing those new attitudes. It also can help experienced thinkers remember--remember what we forget in the day-to-day of life. Just as quotes are the output of the biggest names in success, the inspirations in this book put fuel in our ship, and the exercise they each present to us allows us to make our own quotes (or our own story, as co-author Amy would put it).Warning: You might not like this book if ethereal thinking stuns you. And I mean that in the classic sense of a deer dart. There are pages that start with I Am Effervescent, I am a Bee or I am a Garden indeed.And if that kind of stuff makes you uncomfortable, then all the more reason to add it to your life. Or not.I was not precisely thrilled with the idea of this being marketed as a book so much as a workbook. Some of the inspirational pages are only a few lines. It's a good workbook, but it could be better. Why? It poses the peril that it might give you permission to just forgive yourself or shift your thinking in "positive" or "affirming" ways that are not really requiring you to do the real work. Personal growth is not a positive affirmation.Why three stars? I didn't like the sheer lacking mass of the work, and I felt it could reduce personal growth to a simple affirmation. At times, this appeared antithetical to doing the sometimes complex work to "be" what "I am" -- as a matter of experience, process and learning.On the other hand, this is not rocket science.What gets us to the moon isn't always physics.I don't think this book will appeal to someone who wants a deep read by some great big person, replete with stories on childhood tragedy and inventions that made billions.So I think this book is something that would be a treasure to someone who likes coloring, sketching and books with exercises in them. I have taken a page per day, few days or week. I have really enjoyed taking myself where this book leads me. I guess for me then, it's better than OK. 3.25 Stars.

I was hoping for more of the original legions, but the focus was on the Ultramarines. There are some of the original legions represented in the color guide, but doesn't seem like enough of them. The guide also vaguely explains where insignia are placed, but fail to go into detail about why. There also seems to be a lack of consistancy when it comes to the different legions in relation to which came first, second, etc. Otherwise, I enjoyed the color references and the detailed look at the Ultramarines.

It is a very simple Space Marine guide that is based on Ultramarines. Lots of artworks. It also covers many other Space Marine Chapters. Showing different kind of Badges, Squad Variations, Vehicles, Banners, Weapons, & Official Ranks. Overall I like the book, very nice clean guide about Space Marines.

I was happy with the product, the condition and the information it provided. However, I was expecting more Space Marine Chapters to be involved or more information on other Chapters other than the Ultrmarines. Overall, the product was worth getting to add to my knowledge of the Imperial Forces.
