I really like the way Steve Harper brings a scholar's perspective on Wesleyan Theology in such a simple, practical, and easily understood manner. Harper breaks it down into clear segments helping to give understanding of important topics one by one. I recommend this book to my Wesleyan Theology students and to those interested in a great resource to provide an easy to understand overview of John Wesley and his theology.

This product was shipped rapidly and handled well. The problem was that the book had been designated in "very good shape." There was no mention of the fact that there was a great deal of underlning in the book. I would have chosen a different book if I had known this fact.

I really enjoyed this book, it is a great book to learn the theology of John Wesley. Easy to read!

I bought this book originally for my daughter, but reading her copy I liked it so much I had to buy one for myself. Shauna Niequist has an amazing gift to take the ordinary things we experience in everyday life and help us to see that they are truly extraordinary and worthy to be celebrated. She is incredibly honest and artistic also in crafting her short vignettes. This book has inspired me to live with my senses more attuned to the beauty and blessedness of each day.

I love Shauna Niequist. I really do. But this isn't my favorite thing of hers. She has really come into her own over the past few years, ado this book from 10 years ago feels a bit underdeveloped and more like a collection of blog posts. I still love her, but wild recommend choosing something else to read by her if you're just getting on the Niequist train.

This nook had me constantly bllurting out mentally, "you too? I thought i was the only one!" Shauna is personable, kind, gracious, and at times, will make you laugh right out loud while staring into this book. Her celebration of the ordinary truly is a celebration from page on to the very end. You'll cry, you'll be restored, you'll want to pray and thank God, and come the last page, you'll want to flip to page 1 and read it all once again.So, thank you, Shauna - and to all you skeptical purchasers: just buy it, and dive into a book that will help you see life just a bit brighter.

O.k. so to be honest right from the get go, I am not into religious books. But I am what you would call "spiritual". It's a general statement that's important in a review of this book for one reason only: this book talks about God all the time.Because of the authenticity of her writing, I was ok with the fact that she has a slightly different way of approaching her spirituality than I do. Once I crossed that bridge in the beginning chapters, I was in awe of her. Some of her stories I think will change my life. Perhaps lean me into a direction that is a little bit more of who I really am.The way she contemplates her life is so complex, thoughtful, touching, riveting, hilarious, intense, vulnerable and most of all REAL.The talent of this author has to do with her honesty about humanity. About the human experience. She is a fantastic authentic storyteller, and so each chapter is a chapter about her current life. Specific experiences that were either highly beautiful or very challenging, and she describes her process, her reactions and her meditations on each subject. How she made sense of it all.Reading her book is like being in her mind and looking at the world directly through her lens. Now that's talent. There were times I laughed and, truly, times I cried. There were times where I had to put the book down to reflect, because one of her stories impacted my own life so intensely.I would say that anyone who would not like this book would be those who are offended by her god. But I believe that is what balanced, critical thinking is about when it comes to reading ~ opening yourself up to another person's way of life. And leaving the philosophy in the book that is not relevant to your life, out.She does state clearly in one of her sentences that she equates extreme religious fundamentalism to things like environmental destruction, so I'd say that gave me some insight into her approach to religion in general.Those of you who hesitate because you're too liberal, too "un-church" going, too "alternative": just go for it. She'll touch you deeply if you keep your mind and heart open.

I loved how honest she was. I felt myself connecting with her in so many of her stories. Many times throughout the book I found me self relating to her feelings, thoughts and actions. But it has encouraged me to have a better perspective of my life-my house, my body, relationships. Great book!!

This book is a must read for all women. My husband jokes that we should just buy this book in bulk because I have bought 20 copies (no lie! I went through all my past Amazon orders and counted!) over the last 3 years - every time I order a new copy for myself I end up giving it away to a friend! Shauna's truthful and encouraging words were life giving to me 5 years ago when I read this book and still encourage me today. She has a fresh perspective on life that calls all women to rejoice in the stage of life they are in right now, instead of longing for the next. This book met me where I was when I was just out of college and wanting a better job than my minimum wage gig, when I had just gotten married and felt all alone in a new city and now in my new life stage of having a newborn. Her premise is that life is happening now and you can either choose to cherish and recognize each God given moment or anxiously long for the next and never be satisfied. Her words are insightful, inspiring and thoughtful. You won't regret reading this book!

After reading Bittersweet by Shauna Niequist I knew I needed to get a copy of this book too, and it has not disappointed. Shauna tells stories in ways that captivate the reader, and this book is especially lovely in how she truly does find those beautiful moments in every day life. While reading this book I've noticed more of the moments in my own life, too. If you aren't familiar with her writing, it might be nice to know that she writes small chapters so even if you only have five minutes before bed you can read a chapter and set it down until the next night (if you can set it down!) without feeling like you lost what was happening in the book.

Food is more than what science can make of it. It includes culture. (That only follows when we realize that food is our connection with both agri-culture and how we cultivate our relations with one another among other things.) Waverly Root has a natural gift for writing "poetically" which enables the reader to begin imagining the regional environments of Italy that he describes. I have never been to Italy. However I am gaining lively images of Italy by way Root's descriptions of Italy's regional foods. One of the things that I most appreciate is that Root gives us his direct observations as well as his direct experience of the foods themselves as they are presented in each of the regions. This is far superior to any academic descriptions of a "Mediterranean Diet"! How refreshing!

This is a brilliant and detailed description of not just the cuisine of Italy, but also the geography and history of this beautiful country. This was recommended to me as I planned an Italian getaway, and I learned about more than just food. Excellent guide that goes beyond what the usual travel guides and history books contain. I do not consider myself a foodie or food expert- I'm just a curious traveler who happens to enjoy a good meal and glass of wine, so this was an eye opening read for me.

This book is sold as a companion volume to Root's The Food of France, though the two are of quite different character. Whereas the French volume shows a deep and intimate familiarity with a beloved cuisine that has largely weathered the cultural purges in France since WW2, the Italian volume shows the author as a traveler in a country in which he felt less at home, where he was cataloguing a highly diverse culinary landscape more or less dish by dish. The resulting compendium feels a bit compulsory, as though Root were eating his way through a checklist, the breadth and depth of which were not apparent before he'd spent his advance. Several times his nicely-written narrative verges on tedium, as when he catalogues the minor wines of Umbria or enumerates the differences between the sausages of Modena and those of Bologna. Missing is the rapture and warmth of the French volume.But one must not disparage the content of this less-than-ecstatic reportage: there is more on Italian food recorded here than in any other book I've been able to find in English. He sytematically hits the culinary high points of the entire country, region by region. Unfortunately, much of what he recorded is now lost, or at least homogenized into one national cuisine. Travelers to Italy will be forgiven for assuming that pizza is as much Florentine as it is Neopolitan now that Florence boasts maybe 50 good pizzerie. The highly local traditions Root recorded have largely disappeared. So consider this book to be a touching record of a lost gustatory landscape and of the heroic, not always inspired, travels of a lonely American far from his home in France.

though written fifty-odd years ago, Root's tour of the provinces and towns is useful to the tourist or vacation-dweller today, and his prose is so well-crafted, anyone would enjoy reading it at home. It'll whet your appetite for a trip there next vacation. Meanwhile, the thousand-odd descriptions of the fare, though not recipes, give one just enough information of the ingredients and mode of their preparation, one could figure out how to do it at home.

I hate to think of all the mistakes that I would have made planning my trip if I had not bought this book.It is a must.4/04/2014After reading the book,and starting to plan my trip the only wish I have is that the maps should have more resolution. I find that when you try to increase the size so as to read the names on the maps, it is not much use because of the low resolution. I also have the book in my Kindle dx,(which I plan to take with me) but still have trouble reading the maps.PLEASE update this book with better cuality maps.Then it would be a five star.14/09/2014Thanks to this book my wife and I had a well planned and enjoyable trip.The bus information was very usefull. Off course we saw the Itaipú power plant and the Iguazu falls, but I hate to think that if I had not read this book I would not have known about the cheap trip up the Paraguayan river in the "Aquidaban" boat. Although the bathrooms were not nice, this boat trip was one that allowed us to really get to mix with the local people.(We speak Spanish) This boat trip provided us with the best memories of Paraguay.

Got my copy this past weekend and have been engrossed in going thru it ever since. Having a wife who is Paraguayan and having visited Paraguay over a dozen times in as many years, I have always been frustrated by the poor quality and quantity of available information on the country. It has always been a daunting task trying to gather travel information or decent accounts of what Paraguay is really like. Most "guidebooks" for this country are usually not much more than a chapter within a multi-country guidebook (usually the shortest chapter!) or they appear to be written from what seems to be second hand knowledge or very cursory knowledge at best. In the past this has meant that if you wanted timely or accurate info you had to spend hours going to little known blogs (BTW, Ms. Goldberg has an excellent one on guess what - Paraguay! check it out at [...]), obscure travel web sites or even more obscure Paraguayan web sites which either are heavy on hype or hopelessly out of date. Having said all this, that state of affairs has always been somewhat the "charm" of visiting Paraguay, as it has traditionally been off the radar of most travellers and you tend to break new ground when you venture off the beaten path. But no more. Ms. Goldberg has written the definitive guide, using her vast "in country" experience due to a lifetime of visiting or living there as well as having family ties and speaking both languages well. Just wish she had done it about 12 years ago, it would of saved me a lot of time and effort! Sigh...so now the hordes of tourista's bored with or scared off by the high prices of Argentina, Uruguay or Brazil will start descending on Paraguay now I guess. Hmmm, might be time to buy into the paddle boat concession on Lago Ypacarai....

Disclaimer: I am an avid fan of the Brandt Guidebook to Paraguay. I purchased the Kindle edition of this book as a result of negative feedback of that book from Peace Corps supporters of the author of this book, the daughter of a Peace Corp person, in order to make an informed judgement. I am also a subscriber to the blog of the author of this book, and a fan of her posts.The setting out and flow of the book is good and easy to read. As a habitual visitor to Paraguay for 5 years I still was able to learn many aspects about the country, which is part of the reason I love Paraguay. The authors description on how to reach Salto Cristal was fantastic, bringing back memories of me driving fruitlessly in the general area last year looking for the road in.I applied 3 tests to the Brandt book when I first bought it. Finding the beaches at Villa Florida, the climb to the top of Cerro Yaguaron, its festival day and the spiritual meaning, and the sacred well at Caacupe. That book excellently covered all 3. This book covered access to the beaches at Villa Florida exactly as I would have liked, but mentioned the wells (pozo) only in passing and Cerro Yaguaron not at all.It did however expand a lot of aspects in other areas that the Brandt book doesn't, and that I did not know, and so in my opinion it evens out.The authors knowledge and love of the country stands out, and is up to date in that it covers the impeachment of President Lugo in June 2012, but then falls down by describing the indigenous tent city in Plaza Uruguaya. I was a resident of Hotel Palmas del Sol in April 2012 when the indigenous were moved on, and a large fence constructed around the Plaza, and it is now a beautiful, peaceful place to relax, and locked at sunset (approx).The Kindle edition, which I purchased, suffers in that the bookmarking is terrible. When one cannot flick through the pages looking for something, then bookmarking is critical. An example: try to find Villarrica. It is not bookmarked, or even named in the Table of Contents. One has to guess which area of the country it is in, then scroll through the entire chapter looking for the town, and hoping you have not guessed wrong. This needs to be fixed. I thought it was a 5 star book, downgraded by the Kindle Ed bookmarking.

GREAT guide to a wonderful (if misunderstood) country. I was a Peace Corps volunteer there in the mid-90's and traveled back 20 years later, so wanted this book to refresh memories. It is excellently written and a perfect resource for visiting the country. I even bought one for a young couple who is venturing there in December to discover Paraguay. She is a young lady who was adopted from there and wants to return to discover her roots..he is giving her the trip as a Christmas gift... This is a wonderful book!

This is a nice introductory cursive workbook. As cursive is no longer taught in most public schools, this will be useful in teaching my child at home. It teaches how to do each letter separately and then links them together until the child can write a whole word on their own. I would recommend it.

I have purchased several cursive handwriting books for my boys (age 8 and 11), and this one is my favorite. Simple lessons that give my boys the repetition needed to make forming these letter natural to them. They will be required to write in cursive next school year for the first time. They have been learning with the help of this book for about two weeks, and I have been pleasant surprised at how quickly it is coming together for them. And as a bonus, they enjoy it!

This book is a wonderful tool to teach your child cursive. With practice I bought about a month ago my grand daughter has gone through the book and she is forming sentences on her own in cursive. She is with me on the weekends so we do an hour a day of practice. You need this to teach!

Imagine my surprise when I heard that my daughter's school was no longer teaching cursive- WHAT?! My daughter loves to learn and is rather good at it so I refused to settle that she wouldn't learn it!
