This is the BEST coloring book I have, hands down. When I finish it, I am going to order another so I can color it again. It's that good! The pages are nice and thick. Pictures are on one side only. Paper will take markers if you like them. I mainly use pencils but I use markers for some backgrounds.I love all the aspects of the Pacific Northwest that she covers here. Flora, fauna, agriculture, mountains, cities, oceans. It's all there!

Zoe Keller has prepared a delightful coloring book aimed at picturing the Pacific Northwest in all its glory. “Color the Pacific Northwest” has a lot of depictions of nature, plants, flowers and animals and the like, with a few cityscapes thrown in for variety, but the critics who moan that there is too much nature have forgotten what we Oregonians really love; flora and fauna. Our cities are also beautiful but steel and concrete don’t have the appeal of the California sister butterfly, the Yellow-breasted chat, or the Sky chief totem.The descriptions that accompany the sketches are a special bonus. Every bird, plant, flower, and landscape is named which gives the colorist the opportunity the Google its names, check the images, and use the correct colors to make the finished picture more enjoyable by knowing that the tufted puffins, Stanley Park totem poles, tide pool denizens, and butterflies are correctly depicted. Fascinating. Keller is to be commended for her attention to detail.I’ve shown my copy of “Color the Pacific Northwest” to many people and they are amazed at the marvels found inside. I loved Zoe Keller's previous coloring book, Color the Natural World, so I ordered this one as soon as it was available. I was not disappointed! The drawings are gorgeous, and detailed, with a great mix of realism and fun (Bigfoot!). I like the way it's put together, too, with helpful descriptions facing the drawings, and numbered keys for some of the more jam-packed pages. I only get to visit the Pacific Northwest once in a while but the artfully arranged details and landmarks in these pages bring back a lot of great memories.

I have to totally disagree with the 1 /2 star ratings . This is a great book. The pictures show many different aspects of the great Pacific Northwest, the drawings are excellent and well done, the paper is nice and heavy. I love this artist and I think she has done a great job. Yes it shows animals and plants, but hey, so what ! Its a coloring book, if you want a book with just buildings, there are books for that too. (which I also have)

We used to live in Washington State and it moved back to Ohio my daughter really enjoys that this has it reminds her of where she grew up and she can color and remember the different areas in the pnw

I got this for my BnB. My guests love it and so far some very creative pictures have been made. Coloring is such a wonderful way to escape and allow our creative side to come out.

I bought this as a present for friends in Germany, and it was a hit! The pictures are beautiful and have a great selection of scenes from all over the state.I highly recommend this book.

I had read Ambercombie's first trilogy and very much enjoyed it. I was a bit iffy about starting this one as from the reviews it was obvious that most of the main characters would not be a part of it. It is set in a different part of the world. I felt I might be a bit disappointed to miss the main characters - which had been quite developed, and worried there would not be a lot of time to have similar quality characters done in what is essentially a stand alone novel.Having said all that, there was no need to worry. He does an excellent job putting together a couple new characters you quickly care about while pulling in a bunch of secondary character from the first trilogy. The fact that it is relatively a stand alone novel means it is very fast paced - actually I respect the author in not trying to pull this story out into another trilogy which he could have easily done. Definitly an enjoyable read that I would highly recommend and I look forward to reading the later books in this world.

I recommend the audible version of this epic novel narrated by Steven Pacey as an absolute must if you enjoy books on audio. I have yet to find any other narrator that brings a story to life with such authenticity. His timing is right, his emphasis, tones, and the voices are all unique, for each character! He is not reading a book, as so many others do, he is performing it. And that is the reason I made it more than part way through this book. Which is not to say the book isn't well written, because it definitely is. It is, however, bleak, full of gore in fully descriptive detail, and literally nearly every character is a murderer with few redeeming qualities. The author is relentless, does not take it easy on the 'audience' or the characters, and the plot can seem somewhat slow. Even listening, I was 2/3 through and wondering what on earth the point was. Thinking I had never before read a book where I found it hard to in some way relate to, root for, or like any of the characters very much. If you're like me, and have never read anything by Abercrombie to know his style, or have never read a story so incessantly dark and bloody, and you try to read it yourself rather than listen to Pacey's excellent performance, you just might quit before it's done. And that, as I found out, would be a mistake. By the time it was done, I WAS caring about and rooting for the characters. In a very human and realistic sort of way. Because this story is not pretty, and neither are the people in it. But I was able to grow to appreciate a book unlike any other I've ever experienced. The author is masterful with his twists and the subtleties in his crafting allow the story to build and grow over time in a way that sucks you in slowly and doesn't spoon feed you. It is also sprinkled throughout with humor that had me chuckling or barking out laughter.I have since started Joe Abercrombie's First Law Trilogy with The Blade Itself on audible and am finding it just as awesome. Without any reservations I can say that this book is, thus far, my absolute favorite audible experience, and one I highly recommend!

Well, this was a hell of a ride. Maybe I'm just a sucker for a well told revenge story.I've come to expect greatness from Mr. Abercrombie after recently finishing his First Law trilogy. Best Served Cold, the first of three books set in the world of the First Law, met that expectation and perhaps went a bit further. His writing is tight, his pace breakneck, his characters memorable, all that I came to love about his first trilogy is back in force.Sitting back after reading this one, and reminiscing on the first trilogy, I'm left with two main thoughts. First is this. Joe will not give you what you want. He will make you want things. You will want a certain character to do X, but have a fear that they will do Y, and Joe will laugh and make them do Z. Leave what you want behind and enjoy the ride. The second is rather bleak, and it is this; if you try to change someone for the better, more often than not they'll change for the worse. Horrible right? But interesting to watch.If you've not read it, I recommend it. I think that you could even read this one without having read the First Law, though you'd miss knowledge of plenty secondary situations and characters. I'll be diving into The Heroes very soon.

I find myself always in an awkward position when trying to review a book. Always too much time has passed since reading. But to say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and series would be an understatement. I had heard of Joe Abercrombie and had planned on reading his books for many years, but never got around to doing it. There was always another book from my growing list of authors to read. I've read gifted writers, and Abercrombie ranks as one of the very best! Recently, I've been reading and listening to the audible narration, and if you haven't done that, I wholly recommend it. I don't remember ever being so entertained by both the writing of Abercrombie and the narration of Steve Pacey; had me trembling with excitement and shock while at the same time laughing out loud. I really can't give the author and this series enough stars.

I found this book doing a simple search here on Amazon for Lupus Awareness. I look'd at the reviews and added it to my wish list. After a couple of weeks, something kept making me come back and look, so I decided to get it. I could kick myself for waiting so long. I am completely blown away by how powerful this book is. When I talk about having Lupus, I don't talk about the pain of the illness itself being the worst aspect. It's the person that I lost, the emotional pain, and the alone feeling that came with Lupus that hurts me the most. That has been the hardest thing for me to get use to. The physical limitations are so much easier to adjust to than the emotional ones.I use to be an incurable optimist, now I joke that I'm just incurable. It doesn't matter how optimistic you are, chronic illness has a way of beating you down every now and then. Those are the days that I just feel so alone and isolated. What I love about this book is the wonderful way that you realize that you aren't alone, especially when it comes to feeling that way. It looks at all aspects of chronic illness; and helps guide you through it.I have not stop'd recommending this book since. I believe that it is a MUST own for all sickies!!!

As a person who lives with Lupus, I have discovered that finding books that focus on the emotional aspects of Lupus can be difficult to find. I cried through this entire book (it really touched the emotional being of living with Lupus). I plan to re-read as needed, I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who lives with (or knows someone who lives with) Lupus.

Having recently been diagnosed with lupus and scleroderma my mind and emotions have been racing· This book has offered me hope and inspiration that I can live with my "Ugly Dress" and accessorize it to make me feel better!

Has some funny moments good read for anyone. Explains a little on lupus and how the book got its name. Wish it was a little more to the book

I'm waiting for the results of my blood work but suspect that I have Lupus. I was diagnosed with Celiac a year and a half ago. Needless to say, I'm feeling really sad about making even more adjustments to my already altered lifestyle. Thanks for reminding me to use my "accessories". I suspect I will reread this book many times in the next year as I find my balance.

What a fantastic, well-written book covering the personal experiences of two women dealing with Lupus and Scleroderma.I read the entire book from cover to cover within two days, as I found it to be very accurate and interesting. I would highlyrecommend this book to anyone wanting to learn about these two autoimmune diseases!

I thought this was a clever title for the book - and that the chapters were very helpful about how to deal with something that is not pleasant but can be bearable. Very practical information!!!

I had been an exchristian for a couple of months before readingthis. Even so, while reading it I felt like something bad was behind me - I had to turn around in my chair and look to reassure myself that there wasn't. I was shocked to find the imaginary boogeymen of Christianity rooted so deeply in my own mind.We all know that there are Christian cults out there that practise mind control and brainwashing. This book exposes the fact that this is the norm for NT christianity, not the exception. The new testament is mind-control propaganda, propaganda that held all the minds of Europe in its grip for a millennium and a half.It exposes the newspeak of christianity. The doublethink, the blackwhite, the slippery concepts and words. It explains why, as a christian, it's possible to read a passage of scripture over and over and still feel like you don't that makes it so difficult for a christian to reason about their faith. The dreadful fear at the bottom of christianity.It exposes the poverty of Christian "love", and "joy". It demonstrates the equivocal definitions of 'truth' and 'freedom' that make a lie of "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make in faith, and how it is that faith is the opposite of sin. And in so doing, suddenly makes sense of every bible verse, every book, and every sermon on the topic that I have ever read or heard.Get this, and get George Orwell's "1984" if you don't already have it. But if you are a recent exchristian, don't read it late at night like I did.

The author claims that he wants to be the Feuerbach for the 20th century and demonstrate that the New Testament authors intentionally used psychological technique in their writings to control believers. These same techniques are being used by modern conservative evangelical leaders to control their followers (this book was written in the 1980s when the Religious Right was coming on the scene).The first part of the book provides a broad summary of Christian thinking, starting at about the Reformation, and includes critiques by philosophers and other noted critics of Christianity, including Kant, Hume, Feuerbach, Freud, and William James.The middle part of the book describes the devices that the bible employs to control the minds of conservative Christians, including: 1) Benign attractiveness of the bible - "Love your neighbor as yourself", while playing down the heavier, nastier parts of scripture; 2) Discrediting the world, thereby causing adherents to discredit outside "worldly" authority; 3) Logocide - redefining words to mean something they don't; 4) Assaulting integrity; 5) Dissociation Induction; 6) Bridge Burning - see Device 2; 7) Holy terror - using fear (i.e. damnation) as a way to control people.The final part of the book provides a summary and some additional insight on conservative Christianity on politics, but to be honest I can't provide much detail because I skimmed the final portion of the book.This is a difficult book to read. It feels both ponderous and pompous. The author makes long-winded arguments that could have been summed up neatly in a few pages. I would not recommend this book to someone unless they have an academic background in philosophy or psychology and a lot of free time. If you are looking for something more accessible for understanding how a conservative Christian thinks, I would suggest: "Why I Believed: Reflections of a Former Missionary" (Kenneth Daniels) and "Trusting Doubt: A Former Evangelical Looks at Old Beliefs in a New Light" (Valerie Tarico). Both of these books are written by thoughtful, former evangelicals.

a little too technical for me and rather laborious read

I read the first 130 pages of this book and realized that the author still had not started talking about the subject of the book, "The Mind Of The Bible Believer". He did a great job of discussing Freud, Jung, Rogers, etc. But had yet to even begin discussing what this book is supposed to be about. So I gave up in frustration.

The psychology of believing brains.

I was in a strict fundamentalist religion for 23 years. I picked up this book after I got out. I won't lie: this is on of the most difficult books I've ever read, and I'm a Mensa member! ( i mention that only as a reference point). BUT if you persist, it's full of deep truth about how literalist religion creates a split between our perceived reality and what Christianity asks us to believe. In the field of psychology, this is called "gaslighting". !!! I recommend it to anyone who is struggling with Christianity.

CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD! I AM CONSTANTLY RETURNING TO THIS GUIDE ! I PURCHASED THIS BOOK LAST MARCH FOR MYSELFAND BOUGHT THIS ONE FOR MY MOTHER-IN-LAW. SHE IS A FANTASTIC OIL PAINTER, SHE IS ABSOLUTLY LOVES THIS BOOK!

Of all the instructional books out there, I really enjoy the ones Claudia Nice puts out. Painting your favorite animals in pen, ink and watercolor is my favorite. Clear, concise instructions. Great pictures, a plethora of animals to learn to draw and paint. I did find a couple of errors, the most noticeable is on page 56 at the top of the page is a picture of a cats legs/feet and it is mislabeled; labeling the cats "right foot" as it's left and it's "left foot" as it's right. Other than that, this is a "Go To" book for people who want to learn to paint animals. I would say it's a good book for beginners to those more experienced. The book also explains some anatomy and how to measure for proper proportion. I highly recommend "Painting Your Favorite Animals in Pen, Ink and Watercolor.

This is an excellent book for learning and understanding the structure and emotions of different animals, even if you don't use pen and ink or watercolor. I have little actual art background and am pretty much self learning; this book is full of detailed information about ears, paws, different ways to show coat texture, etc.I was very pleasantly surprised at the detail that Claudia Nice covered and would recommend this book highly to anyone truly wishing to paint/sketch, etc, animals with accuracy. She also covers the actual watercolors she uses on the different paintings to give you an idea of how they work together to add depth and interest.Highly recommend this book to anyone with an eye towards portraying animals in all their glory.

I got this for an elderly and somewhat bored person who loves animals. I glanced at it before sending it out (I always do that with book presents -- cheating, huh?). It's GREAT. Clear, really nice looking, useful and not at all condescending to people who do not consider themselves novices (but are). Actually, I think this book is useful to everyone, regardless of level of accomplishment.

I love Claudia Nice books, so much attention to detail, so simple and easy to follow, and really down-to-earth explanations. Her work is absolutely beautiful. She really knows her animals. Great book for the novice and advanced artists. All books that I've ordered on Amazon.com have been quality and extremely helpful in my advancement from novice to advanced artist. I highly recommend this book.

I like that it points out differences of a distracting background to a more interesting one. It teaches you how to create hair textures. It shows all kinds of animals even farm animals.

For me this is the perfect book. All the drawings, paintings etc. that I do are either of animals of include animals. Claudia's drawings and instructions are invaluable for anyone who likes to draw animals.

I bought this book for information I was not getting with a sketching class. It had examples as well as information about techniques needed to use for drawing. I started using pen and ink. This book also had information needed for this and examples of the pen and ink. It showed the different physique of the animals to show how to draw and ink them.

Alex is used again by M16. Where are the child labor laws? And sent to an academy where the troublesome sons of the rich and famous are sent to be reformed. Immediately, we know something creepy is going on. We get away from Alex to have other characters explain. But the result is more disturbing than originally thought. Alex has to keep ahead of the others while on his own in this secluded lodge. Just explosives waiting to happen.

My daughter loves to read. She really likes Alex Rider books after reading a few from our local library. I bought her the Alex Rider DVD for Christmas which was a suprise to her as she didn't even know there was a DVD for Alex Rider until the week before Christmas. She found the first, 6th, and 7th books at an Ollie's outlet Store and we have been using the rest of the set as fill-ins to get Super Saver Shippings for other products we order from Amazon. Soon, she will have the full set, then we will move on to the next set of books she wants to use as fill-ins. I have read these books as well and they are very captivating and hold your attention and you cannot wait until you see what is happening next! Great mystery for even the younger (ages 8 and up) readers who like mysteries that are not extremely scary, but that keep you captivated and wanting more.

This was a most interesting, well-told and well-drawn story. It's only the second of the series I've seen (the other being STORMBREAKER, the original). Of course, I shouldn't have been surprised by the essentially unrealistic premise or the classic monologuing (sp.?) of the mad villain, but I was pleasantly surprised by the other twists and turns of the plot (which are, no pun intended, chilling in various ways). Alex nearly buys the farm more than once (one of the times being when he finds himself overmatched as a martial artist by the chief villainess), but it's good to have good friends around at such times."Most schoolboys dream of being a spy. Alex is a spy who dreams of being a schoolboy." Well said, Mr. Stuffy MI6 Director. :) And we find out by the end just how true that is - Alex comes to a turning point in his mind about his destiny, however long that state of mind lasts.

Some interesting plot ideas, but I still think this author's style is way too simple -- teens and children can process much more than this. Look at Robert Louis Stevenson, Kipling, Dickens. Children will live down to what is expected of them. Also interesting to note, ideas from this book seem to have been combined with/substituted into the Alex Rider movie of the first book.There are occasional moments where a very cool personality for Alex comes through, and it would have been nice for there to be more of these. I love that Alex speaks up for himself a little against the people who exploit him, and is not fooled by pretty much anyone. (Especially by spoiled, homicidal rich bee-otches.) Fun, but it could be so much better.

It’s almost but not quite as good as ally carters spy book series! I don’t really like that he hates being a spy but everything else is great! There should be a girl though. There are no kid girls other than total nut casesE.B

I am 38 years old, but I have a young cousin who has read all the Alex Rider books, and I decided to read them myself so that the two of us would have something to talk about the next time he visits.Having read all of the original James Bond novels by Ian Fleming, I am amused by how Anthony Horowitz continues paying homage to Fleming. This time around, Horowitz clearly models Point Blank on Fleming's On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Both books are set in an isolated mountaintop hideaway from which the villains carry out their evil and elaborate plots, and both books contain narrow escapes, exciting downhill chase sequences, and over-the-top action. Both books are also a lot of fun. I can see why my cousin enjoys them.While I liked the first Alex Rider book (Stormbreaker), I think I enjoyed Point Blank more. The story seemed to move along faster, especially the last half. The violence, though tame by adult fiction standards, continues to surprise me but not in a negative sense. This is an action/adventure series, after all.I don't want to give anything away, so I will simply say that I liked the ending, which sets up some interesting villainous possibilities for future books in the series. Could Dr. Hugo Grief become Alex Rider's own version of Fleming's Blofeld? Certainly Eva Stellenbosch, Dr. Grief's right-hand gal, bears some similarities to Blofeld's long-time companion and co-conspirator, Irma Bunt (both women are noted as being especially ugly and completely devoted to their men).I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Very engaging and enjoyable read for the second book in the series. My only complaint is that the ebook version had a ton of improperly hyphenated words like Eng-land, for example. It got to a point where it felt like there was one every other page and it threw off the flow.

This is a great book for Teens, but I am too old for all this excitement! Now OO7 with Sean Connery is moremy speed.
