I had to read the book "Night" for school and loved it. Great book

The Night Trilogy consisted of three separate books like the title says, but what makes the book interesting is that all three books are from a different point of view. The three perspectives not only show what occurred during the holocaust, but also what events occurred after, and the effects it had on many survivors. The author also uses a lot of figurative language to illustrate the story, making it more lifelike. He also uses different styles for each novel and making each unique. In the first novel the story is non-fiction and in chronological order, while the other two uses flash back and is fictional, so you get to learn more about the character and connect with them throughout the story. Overall I thought this book was very intriguing and I would recommend this to everyone.

This book is really a great, mind blowing, heart jerking read. Elie Wiesel is a great writer and I was happy to watch him on Oprah, just to see who he was.

In 2006, Ford brought in Alan Mulally to help rescue Ford Motor Company from itself. Mulally’s first task was to change Ford’s management style from “every man for himself” to “every man for Ford”. Ford management’s transition from hiding problems (so you didn’t get fired) to acknowledging problems (so you could fix them) could only happen as the braver managers took the leap of faith that Mulally wouldn’t fire them for admitting the serious problems that existed within their own areas of responsibility. Reading about that process was interesting on its own; but, as I was reading, I was also thinking “these guys don’t yet know that the Great Recession is coming”. That event took the drama of Ford’s attempts to survive its past missteps to a whole new level. Wonderful, interesting and exciting book about Alan Mulally, Ford Motor Company, the auto industry and corporate America.

Growing up in the Detroit area I've seen Ford both at their best and their worst. Their incredible transformation over the last decade was nothing short of incredible. This reads more like an intrigue novel than a history lesson and really holds your attention. This, combined with Once Upon a Car and Taken for a Drive are some of the best auto industry books I've ever read.

I have to confess that this book was a complete stunner. I purchased it hoping to get a decent idea of what Ford went through during the economic crisis of 2006-2009, but this book proved to be a detailed, engrossing story that I could barely put down. Anyone who follows the news is well aware of the debacle that was the US auto industry in 2007, but Hoffman provides such depth in describing the issues facing the industry and the corporate in-fighting that it almost reads like fiction.You are instantly endeared to Bill Ford as a man that can put aside his own ego for the good of the company he loves, and you root for Alan Mullaly throughout the book even though we already know Ford made it through to the other side. His belief in his system and his ability to completely change the corporate culture of a multi-national company are truly inspiring.Outside the story itself, there are all sorts of interesting factoids to be found such as how the common stock was set up to ensure the Ford family maintained voting rights, and how neither Chrysler or General Motors would've survived if President Obama had stuck to President Bush's original requirements. The book delivers on so many different levels. I highly recommend to anyone with an interest in business or just an interest in a great story.

Author Bryce Hoffman details the incredible American comeback story of Ford Motor Company. His focus is largely on Alan Mulally, whom Ford hired away from Boeing in September 2006 to take over as their New CEO. Hoffman chronicles the events leading to Bill Ford's decision to step down as CEO and go outside the company and the auto industry to hire Mulally.The author describes the changes Mulally made to Ford's corporate culture as well as the approach he took to changing the mentality and necessity to work together for the survival and future of the company. Hoffman narrates the risks the company had to take to be able to keep it running. I especially relished the narrative of the three auto industry CROw's appearance before the Congressional and Senate hearings on the fall of 2008, when General Motors and Chrysler were asking for a federal bailout to keep those two automakers alive.Hoffman takes the reader into 2011 at a time when Ford was back in the black and on much stronger ground. He gives Mulally much of the credit for this amazing turnaround, but also praised Bill Ford and the other heirs of Henry Ford. Hoffman gives credit to many others within Ford for their courage and contributions to the comeback. This was the most interesting and enlightening books I've read about the American auto industry.

I'm enjoying reading about Alan Mulally.CEOs, CFO's, COOs, mid-level managers and especially consultants--there's something for everyone in this book.Some of my favorite points:1. Bill Ford was humble and willing to step away and letting someone else take over. He was great in keeping the family unified during thick and thin.2. What can we say about Mulally that hasn't been written elsewhere? I loved reading about the BPR process and his One-Ford strategy. He didn't just clean house either. He made a change here and there. A couple leaders left on their own. A couple were elevated. There's much we can learn about Mulally's leadership style.3. The bailouts - I found myself getting frustrated as I re-lived the bailouts of GM and Chrysler. Ford was at a complete disadvantage once the government took control of GM. Yet, Ford stuck to their plan.4. And speaking of that recession, it's as though Mulally had to navigate not one, but two turnarounds.That one and their serious issues when he first came on board in 2006.5. We know the rest of the story. Mark Fields is now the new CEO. Mulally embraced his abilities from day one. So this has a great ending. The fire didn't go out through a changing of the guard.I'm still amazed at how one person could change a leviathan in a stodgy industry. Sure, he built a team and had the full support of the Chairman. But this guy was/is unreal.I thought Gordon Bethune was legendary. I think Mulally's accomplishments are even more impressive since he turned around Boeing too.I also recommend the Audible version too as I listened to it while reading the Kindle version.

Despite this or because of it , I highly recommend it to folks interested in what happens in Combat , especially the friends and family members who may not understand why Daddy flinches when a car backfires or why he constantly has his head on a swivel.He takes you into an F-18 and the pilot’s brain Housing group , where there are life long consequences to dropping ordinance.On a different Story he takes you along to the Brotherhood of FMF Corpsmen who love their Marines so much that they willingly RUN into firefights whilst their Grunt Marines lay prone supressing.He takes you into a mature Platoon Commander tour , where within days the Red Legs accidentally waste an entire compound of Women and Children in Afghanistan. The reality is that after the action , FMF Docs and Marine Grunts sort through body parts to prepare the bodies for burial.The author is unapologetic when describing the disconnect from Senior Officers who have no clue what their own Young MEN are doing. Like the 0-6 who would NOT step out until he had Two Apache’s to protect his cowardly self.The author has a gift and I a.m so blessed to discover this work.SFMF

Not only does it tell us the stories of real-life warriors, many of them over multiple deployments to The Sandbox, but it doesn’t sugar-coat their experiences.Chivers tells these warriors’ stories – grunts, pilots, the gamut – in a way that is both engrossing while at the same time very revealing of the flaws in our current military doctrine.He doesn’t hit you over the head with it. This is still primarily a book about the people, not the policies. But when you read about their experiences, you can’t help but get an understanding about why this war – particularly in Afghanistan, America’s longest war – isn’t progressing to any discernible conclusion.As a Vietnam vet, I’m very aware of the factors that led to our losing of that war. Primarily, a war doctrine that was doomed to failure, compounded by political complications as well as meddling and micro-management by high-ranking poobahs back in the rear with the gear, as we used to say.As you read this book, it becomes clear that many of those same Vietnam-era problems exist now in these wars, particularly the grossly flawed COIN (Counter Insurgency) doctrine that leads to ridiculously constrained ROEs (Rules of Engagement).Once again we have politicians in DC dictating how the front-line troops have to fight, with the political top military brass being their willing accomplices. Instead of Westmoreland, you have McChrystal, for example. Both relied on war doctrine that, in my opinion, has zero chance of actually WINNING a war.And if you’re not going to fight a war to actually win it, you shouldn’t fight it at all.This is a problem that derived from both Bush and Obama. Neither one had a clue about what was at stake in The Sandbox, nor how to fight and win a war there, and Bush’s idea of “nation-building”, particularly in the Middle East, was founded on wishful thinking rather than any kind of realistic appraisal or understanding of the region. It was unicorn time.The results are pretty clearly illustrated in this highly-recommended book. Get it. Five stars.

If you cant decide whether this story is for you read CJ Chivers excellent article The Fighter which clearly lays the groundwork for this longer expose about the trials and tribulations of fighting two wars in distant parts of world with limited international support, shifting political priorities and peoples who don't necessarily want us there. This is not a happy book. This is not a book for those who cant handle ugly truths or difficult facts. While I could maybe argue with a couple points of some of his political summaries in between chapters as *arguably* emphasizing wrong points, or leaving out a salient fact or two, or maybe even reaching a different conclusion then I would have there is nothing that seems spun or objectively wrong. Even minor points I might disagree on, they are points that reasonable people might disagree on, not completely made up or fudged or anything seemingly or patently false. This is mostly and objective look at 2 wars we've been fighting for nearly 16 years with little fan fare and the effect its had on some of the military members who fought it.If this book has an agenda its probably showing how little we've actually accomplished, how better or worse off the countries are for that action, how much money we've spent, and how definitely worse off a lot of the men and women who fought are. I might disagree with some of the conclusion, or argue that in a more global strategic sense these conflicts did accomplish something, but there is no arguing that this paints a realistic picture of the hardship and difficulty United States of America Servicemen and Women face during their deployments and continue to face long after they return home. We as country need to take more responsibility for helping those brave soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors once they return home by making it easier, faster and more accepted to get treatment for a wide host of potential issues that can surface sometimes years later. Suffering from or talking about PTSD and other issues doesnt make a person weak, it makes them human. Whatever you think of the wars were involved in, support our vets. I for one am a proud supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project, but there are a lot of equally fantastic organizations to choose from.

Some of the erotica that comes out in today’s world is pretty bad, sometimes it feels like I’m reading a scene from a porno that was made by a man for a man. If this was a porno it would have been made by a woman and for a woman. Seriously though if you’re even thinking about giving this back ok a shot I strongly recommend it.
