Mahler has received awards for K–1 Spanish picture books, multimedia intervention for adolescent readers, and National Geographic’s classroom magazines.Dr. Beatrice Mendez Newman is a professor in the English Department at The University of Texas-Pan American where she teaches first-year writing courses and writing methods classes. Her Ph.D. is from Texas A&M University where she specialized in rhetoric and composition and linguistics. She has a lifetime Texas teaching certificate in secondary English and Journalism, including ESL certification, and works extensively with local teachers in creating student-centered, engaging writing units. Mendez Newman’s book, English Teacher Certification Exams in Texas, published by Allyn and Bacon in 2005, is a study guide for the TExES ELAR exams. Don't prepare with this book. Head to the TExES Certification Exam Review for Teachers website at https://pact.tarleton.edu/tcert/ From that website you are given exact, correct materials (including vocabulary, content overviews, an hour-long lecture covering everything on the exam, and sample questions/exams).Don't bother with this book as it is not as complete or correct as that website!Why the book didn't help me?⎯ Presented material did not always match descriptions found on the official TExES review site.⎯ Many sample questions presented information not defined or explained within the book⎯ Many subjects were not fully explored or defined at all

As much as I hated this book, it was my saving grace. I had to take the ESL Exam on my own, without any extra classes, and this book became my study guide. I read it cover to cover, twice, and did the extra tests in the back. That's absolutely all I did to study... No extra online research, no other books, nothing. But I still passed! Of course not everything I had come across on the test had been in the book, but enough was, that I was able to get through the exam without ever feeling flustered.

I liked that it prepared me for the reality of the test. It helped that there was a pre-test to help me know my weaknesses. I was also thankful for the online, timed practice tests. Understand, there is no short-cut to study. Use the book correctly. I followed another reviewers suggestion when I started. I read the book front to back, took all the practice tests online, and I passed the real exam first time I took it. You get out of it what you put in to it,...just like everything else in life. :)

It is extremely helpful to have the diagnostic tests so that you can focus your study efforts. With this book and a workshop provided by my regional service center I passed on my first try with a 280!

I didn't take an ESL class as a part of my certification program, and I used only this book (other than a brief visit to a quizlet someone made on my phone one time) to prepare for my exam, and passed it on the first try. I ended up taking my exam a month ahead of when I had originally planned and didn't get a chance to use the practice tests, but I am always happy with the quality of REA reviews.

Personally, I work through this book (it didn’t take long) then I take online, free, practice tests. I passed my ESL with flying colors. Highly recommend. I used this same company for my Core Subject as well as practice tests, passed on my first try as well.

Worth it! Didn’t take the classes, and just had classroom experience, and passed!

I used this book to study for the TExES 154 and passed with flying colors. It includes all major topics covered on the test. The two practice tests were super helpful in preparing for the test.

Although much of the book is marijuana-market specific, some of it is geared to the beginning investor, in plain English - so for me it served a double purpose. I'd highly recommend it.

This book was an easy to read and follow. This was my intro to marijuana stocks and I plan to move forward.

Being able to read personal stories in the book helps those of us who don't know their struggles, to better comprehend and empathize.Great read with critically important life lessons on supporting the LGBTQ community as they seek to find acceptance and peace in a world of misunderstanding.

The world can be a very confusing place when you are a sexual minority. Feelings of isolation is perhaps more likely to occur in LGBT-indivuals. Therefore LGBT stories cannot be shared often enough. A lot of people criticised the stories in the book for being too much the same. Though I think it's for that exact reason the book is so good. Exactly because this (book) will make you feel that you are not alone in the experiences you've had.

I am an active member of my school's GSA and when school started again for the 2010-11 year, we were all shocked and saddened by the numerous LGBTQ related suicides. We were there when Dan started the project and we shared our favorite videos on Facebook and at our meetings.This book is the next step for the project. It is a collection of transcriptions from some of the most watched videos from some very influential people, both in the community and outside of it. The book is moving, not only for LGBTQ people but for straight people with friends that fit into LGBTQ. It offers personal experiences from the other side of the fence that rarely get heard. This other perspective is what makes the IGB book essential. After reading it, people can no longer allow it to not get better. The IGB book adds depth to a movement that is often only seen at face value, from both sides.Buy it, read it, then go to the IGBP website and order one for the high school you attend(ed).

I enjoyed the stories in this book, it certainly does add a feeling of "It gets better" for LGBTQ youths. It's a great read for anyone, to read about people of all orientation, and statuses, the encouragement and feedback is great.I quickly donated the book to my local high school, for others to use.I gave it a 3 star because, I ended up getting really bored throughout (ended up skimming) as the stories started to become the same theme.

At first I was surprised to discover the book is actually an Anthology. The experiences related by real people from all walks of life, many well known names, were sad but mostly inspiring. There were supporting pieces from important public figures who are straight. I would recommend this book as it is revealing for the suffering endured by those who are different.

It's an old library book but a book that everyone should read. The entire IT GETS BETTER program is awesome. Wanted the book because I have everything else associated with the program

I stumbled across this book after 27 years of suffering from migraines which had by this point become debilitating. Pressured by the migraines, I eventually began to repeatedly harass my doctor, in order that we might together come up with a solution beyond a dependency on Imitrex/sumatriptan (a dependency wich began with pills and was now escalating to injections - the epipen thingy). Test after test came back normal but still I continued to suspect it was blood sugar related, mostly because I found that if I managed to eat regularly, which wasn't easy given my occupation at the time, the frequency of migraines would decrease, and if I quickly ate something protein rich like milk or chicken nuggets (if I was out), my symptoms (which I later identified as neuroglycopenia) would abate. I even went to a diabetes specialist and her tests came back normal and her recommendation was acupuncture or a shrink. Still I remained certain. And worse the migraines became. Back I went to the office and the doctor covering the office that day sends me for a glucose tolerance test. The results - ugly. Eventually, a year or so later, after nearly getting myself and potentially others as well killed after going the wrong way at a very (at that time) confusing intersection on the way to the hospital my doctor was convinced it was time to send me to see another specialist, this time, in the big city, at one of the teaching hospitals. Even then, that did not completely solve the problem, although he did help point me in the right direction (like some medical version of Pin the Tail on the Donkey). Ultimately, it was me, the waitress, googling 'symptoms of neuroglycopenia at normal blood sugar levels' who was able to accurately diagnose the issue (although the specialist alluded to it, telling me I had a problem with the glucostat (not on the internet) in my braiin, and my blood sugar levels were running hot, a.k.a. Relative Hypoglycemia. Only then, and once I began realizing that the sumatriptan wasn't doing me any favors as I found myself having greater than expected difficulty walking up flights of stairs did I finally really begin to buckle down and make the lasting changes advocated by author. This book is one that will leave you scratching your head and wondering what in the bleep is wrong with the medical establishment (a lot - for one, human beings aren't cylon models - what is 'normal' for one, isn't necessarily 'normal' for another). Anyone wanting to live longer than 56 needs to read this book. And I agree with other reviewers that it is unbelievable that this book isn't on the NYT best seller list. Apparently some other factor is at work because this book merits that and more. Why? Google 'relative hypoglycemia' and find out. Among the first items on the list is a research article from something like 1960, in which a medical doctor or psychiatrist discovers that relative hypoglycemia often presents as mental illness. I trust I don't have to tell you what that is like, spending 27 years of your life thinking you might be crazy and others thinking so as well, only to discover 27 years in that it is simply a matter of better controlling your blood sugar which I've learned to do and now I feel great! Like a whole different person, with less and less frequent migraines and less and less frequent use of medication to control them. In fact, now I hardly use the sumatriptan at all, although I continue to carry it with me, in case I fail to eat soon enough to maintain my blood sugar levels, or in case I fail to accurately take into account the effects of stress/strenuous exercise. What I learned from this experience is something I've known for quite some time. That is, you have to do your own research, and you, yourself are the patient's best advocate - if not you, who? And remember, as I said to one of my best friends just the other day, it wasn't long ago that doctors were still blood letting, and as she herself remarked (in jest), they've probably still got some leaches hidden in a drawer somewhere. A bit of an exaggeration perhaps, what with MRI's and all, but to some extent, true. For more on this subject see the book, Patient Heal Thyself, also available on Amazon.com.

Each year my prescriptions increase, but that was before going on a ketogenic diet. the information provided in this book supports what I'm doing. My A1C is significantly lower and I'm reducing my meds for the first time in years. Thank you for your research.

A prophetic work regarding how to test for Hyperinsulemia which may most often lead to pre-diabetes, which most often leads tragically to Diabetes type 2. Very useful work, gave me so much clarity on my Oral Glucose Tolerance Test. (OGTT). A strong scientific evidenced base argument for applying a very sensitive test which consumers can now buy online without a medical prescription a 3 hour version with 4 insulin assays and 4 glucose Assays from LifeExtension, and see if they have increased Insulin. A Fasting Blood sugar is like a 1 day balance sheet and 15300+ people who tested below the normal level failed the test for Insulin. Their pancrease is producing too much Insulin intermittently. This cannot be detected by a basal insulin and glucose and certainly not by an A1c test(three week income statement) value of >5.6 means you are prediabetic. My A1c and FBG are pristine(was prediabetic) but took an Oral Glucose Tolerance test and tested positive for hyperInsulimea. The Low carbohydrate High fat diet, got me to a FBG of 75 and A1c of 5.2. Doctor thought that I had pristine glucose measurements after 3 months of being prediabetic for several years. Now I can measure my Dietary progress and weight loss to see at what weight my Insulin is normal. This will in theory and scientifically according to many corpses examined stop and potentially reverse any further damage in my peripheral veins, decrease the possibility of a heart attack dramatically, help relieve my kidney and prevent Kimmelstiel-Wilson lesions. (which are formed when insulin increases.) High insulin has the same pathology as diabetes, without any warnings from the pathetically lagging FGB and the inadequate A1c test! Without Dr. Kraft's incredible work, I would not have continued to follow dietary lifestyle changes, lowering my carbohydrate daily levels to ,15 grams a day to prevent insulin spikes and save my pancrease from wearing its self out and preventing Insulin resistance from reoccurring. I plan to take this test many more times to check that the lifestyle I have chosen is working, so that I do not die a premature painful death due to DM2 like so many other family members, including both grandfathers!
