About the Author

Carina Envoldsen-Harris is a Danish designer, blogger and author living in the UK. She has a background in multimedia design as well as studies in art history and Italian language. Under the name Polka & Bloom, Carina has been designing and selling embroidery patterns since 2009. The biggest problem is that the transfer pages don't actually transfer the designs. I tried on both cotton and linen fabric using a variety of heat settings, and they wouldn't work. That makes it really challenging to transfer the most intricate designs to the fabric. It was an incredibly frustrating experience for me. Also, this is really stupid, but the pocket on the back of the book that's meant to hold the transfer pages after you tear them out isn't big enough to fit the pages inside! They end up sticking out and/or getting crinkled if you try to stuff them in. It's all a nice concept but very poorly executed.

The book itself was wonderful; the colors on trend, the designs each unique, directions are comprehensive...until you get your iron ready to transfer the design to your fabric. So...aside from the direction in the book - I have used a product to transfer coloring sheet pages from the web to my fabric to sew with really good results. There may be other brands, but I used Sulky brand Printable self-adhesive, sticky fabri-solvy. Scan or print your design to a sheet of the paper, make sure your fabric is clean of lint and wrinkles; then peel the back off the sheet and roll it onto your fabric compressing the bubbles as you go. I let mine kind of 'cure' for a few days before I sew so that it is not as sticky and the needle glides through easier. When you are all done simply hand rinse in a warm tub/clean sink and it dissolves away!I know...more products to buy - but this stuff will set you free! I am planning a whole quilt out of an Autumn themed coloring book - can't wait to start. Good Luck

The designs are pretty so I gave it a star but the patterns did not iron on at all! What’s up with that! I had to trace the designs with transfer pencils which was a royal pain!

this is a beautiful book. it is easy to do. i am busy gathering up the supplies i need so i can start working on the projects.

Ugh! I was so disappointed! These designs are just lovely but they don't actually transfer which is heartbreaking; they would have been delightful to stitch!

The pictures and explanations are great! The designs come in different sizes so that you can do multiple projects. It has a tons of different ideas for where and how to use them.

fantastic story and singer

I love the bbok

The book was well written about life of Mahalia Jacksons .

This is not the first book Ms. Orgill has written about musicians. In this, as in the others, her passion for, and knowlege about music shines through her words.MAHALIA is not only a meticulously researched biography, but also an excellent portrayal of the times in which Mahalia lived. It is definately not just a book to be pulled out during Black History Month. It's a well told, important story for everyone, and should be in every library and school library in the country.

I couldn't wait for this book to hit the bookstores! It was refreshing to read a "new" book on this incredible woman. Mrs. Orgill included many photos to help the reader sense what the times were like for Mahalia during her growing up years right on through to the high point in her career. The book showed photos of the home Mahalia grew up in and also the first home she owned. Mahalia lived a very hard life but her faith in God saw her through. She devoted herself to a life in Gospel music and never let anything or anyone tempt her to change her mission in life. Mahalia was one of Gospel music's pioneers and no one since has been able to fill her shoes. This book was a job well done. Excellent reading...

This is a wonderful look at the determination of the great gospel singer Mahalia Jackson. She not only brought Gospel singing to the world, she was a force in the civil rights movement as well. Ms. Orgill has written a compelling biography and writes in a style that practically "sings" like Mahalia herself. This beautifully written book with its wealth of photographs bring Mahalia and that time in history vividly back to life.
